Jay Brown

Director, Public Health Program

Dr. Jay Brown is an associate professor of instruction in the public health program at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on community-based participatory projects, including an NIH P20 grant for cancer disparities among underrepresented groups. He has developed and implemented a Master of Public Health program serving as founding director, a public health-focused study abroad program to Australia and a culturally responsive training program for faculty at Hispanic-Serving Institutions. Driven by a commitment to public health, he founded a social service nonprofit organization and has actively supported dozens of others through volunteer service over the course of his career.

Jaimie N. Davis, PhD, RD is a Full Professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin. With over two decades of experience, Dr. Davis’s research focuses on preventing and treating childhood obesity and related metabolic diseases through behavioral interventions, particularly among underserved youth. She holds a BS and PhD in Nutritional Sciences from UT Austin and completed her postdoctoral training at the University of Southern California, where she later joined the faculty.

Dr. Davis has led numerous NIH- and foundation-funded randomized controlled trials, including community and school-based interventions. Her work has been published in over 100 peer-reviewed journals and has demonstrated the effectiveness of garden-based nutrition programs in improving dietary intake, reducing metabolic risk, and enhancing food security in high-risk populations.
