Description
Our second seminar will take place on Oct. 22 at 12pm (noon) CT and will feature Dr. Phillip Schnarrs, professor in the Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, co-director of the Center for LGBT Health Research at UPitt's School of Public Health, and Editor-in-Chief of the Springer Nature Annals of LGBTQ+ Public and Population Health. Prior to becoming faculty at UPitt, Dr. Schnarrs was associate professor of Population Health, in Dell Medical School's Department of Population Health and director of the Texas People-centered Research, Intervention Design and Evaluation (PRIDE) in Health Collaborative here at UT Austin.
Jake Semora, Graduate School Fellow with UT Austin's School of Social Work, will also present data on related findings.
Dr. Schnarrs will be presenting data collected in conjunction with Dell Medical School Student Paul Fleidner interrogating the experiences of men who have sex with men (MSM) who engage in “chemsex,” the practice of using drugs before and/or during sexual activity and a significant driver of HIV risk as well as substance use disorder (SUD). Their researched focused particularly on the perspectives of men who engaged in chemsex around treatment, their experiences after such treatment, and their needs and/or preferences for ongoing support.
